This food review is rather overdue, photos were taken in August 2012 when I was back in Kuching. Piccolo Cafe was rather new to me then. I was a returning customer for quite a few times as I liked the ambience there and it always felt rather relaxing. The place is clean as well, you'd have to take off your shoes before entering the dining area.
This is their Steamed Pork Belly Hakka lunch set. I quite like this as it does not taste heavily seasoned, thus you would not get sick of it.They have several varieties of their Hakka lunch set, priced at RM12.50 each. The set comes with a bowl of your selected dish, rice (plain rice, tea rice, or garlic rice), soup and vege.
And this is their Red Vinasse Chicken (红糟鸡) lunch set. It's rich in colour, aroma and flavour. Dont be frightened by the blood-red colour, it is natural. I was told that Red Vinasse promotes good blood circulation too.
Other than the above 2 dishes for the Hakka lunch set, you can choose either Kacangma, Hakka Pork Leg, or Garlic Pork.
Many of you might not be familiar with the term "Kacangma" if you are not from Sarawak. To my knowledge, it is a Sarawakian dish that is traditionally given to women during their confinement period after giving birth. However, it is not necessarily eaten by just postnatal women, many people still enjoy this dish filled with the fragrance of motherworth herb (益母草).
Cheesy Pork Chop. I cannot remember how much this was priced. Tasted rather typical as well.
Generally, Piccolo Cafe is rather alright if you'd like somewhere relaxing to have a meal or just have a chat over a drink. Frankly, food is not exceptionally cheap and may be a stretch for some people out there. But a visit once in awhile would probably be fine.
